Friends in the Literary Community
Each year Friends receives nearly half a million donated
books, which we in turn resell to the public through two
bookstores and a number of book sales – including
the largest book sale on the west coast. All profits benefit the Library
and many books are donated to schools and other non-profit
organizations. Notable books are offered to the special
collections of the Library.
Parking at Fort Mason now involves parking fees. Click here to learn more.
Help us continue to offer the greatest selection of
books at the best possible prices by donating your
books using any of the following options:
- Visit our Book Donation Center at Fort Mason
Center, Bldg. D, room #265. We will gladly
accept donations on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and sometimes Saturdays,
from 10 am to 2 pm. Please call 415-771-3777
ahead of time to make sure a volunteer will
be there to help you.
|
- If you have a small number of books (one box or less), stop by Book Bay Main, which accepts book donations
during store hours.
|
- You may also bring small quantities of books
to your branch library. Please call your branch
ahead of time to let them know you are coming.
|
- If you do not have a vehicle and have four
boxes or more, call 415-626-7512 ext. 112 and we will
arrange to have a volunteer contact you for
a book pick up.

Helpful Tips
We accept good conditioned hardcover and paperback
books in all subjects. We also accept cassettes, videotapes
and CDs, which we sell in our Book Bay Bookstores and
at our Book Sales.
Because they are difficult to sell, we do not accept
magazines of any kind, Reader's Digest Condensed Books,
law books, books in poor condition, marked in any way,
underlined or with unreadable spines. Please do not
donate any textbooks, travel books or computer books
older than three years.
We will be glad to give you a receipt for your donation,
however we do not evaluate the books and you are responsible
for estimating the value for deductions. |
