Branch libraries are at the heart of every San Francisco
neighborhood and Friends sponsors programs and events
that help energize our twenty six branches. We also
provide branch-specific grants to these libraries that
fund unique, neighborhood-based projects.
In addition, a library renaissance will soon be taking
place across San Francisco. In November 2000
San Francisco voters passed Proposition A, the Branch
Library Improvement Program, totaling $105.9
million. Combined with other state and local, public
and private fund sources, this program will renovate
nineteen branches, replace four leased facilities with
City-owned branches, and construct a new branch in
Mission Bay.
Bond funds do not pay for equipment or furniture for
these new branches. Friends' Neighborhood
Library Campaign is charged with raising $16 million
in private funds to help refurbish and equip these twenty
four branches. |
