"I love the library. There are so many books and I want to read them all."

Library Fan!

Branch libraries are at the heart of every San Francisco neighborhood and Friends sponsors programs and events that help energize our twenty six branches. We also provide branch-specific grants to these libraries that fund unique, neighborhood-based projects.

In addition, a library renaissance will soon be taking place across San Francisco. In November 2000 San Francisco voters passed Proposition A, the Branch Library Improvement Program, totaling $105.9 million. Combined with other state and local, public and private fund sources, this program will renovate nineteen branches, replace four leased facilities with City-owned branches, and construct a new branch in Mission Bay.

Bond funds do not pay for equipment or furniture for these new branches. Friends' Neighborhood Library Campaign is charged with raising $16 million in private funds to help refurbish and equip these twenty four branches.
